After battling demons and the Harbinger at the end of the last issue,
this one picks up with Wonder Woman continuing the fight and showing
off her new magic lasso. While the lasso is traditionally used to
force the user to tell the truth, the twist here is that it
“binds and burns in proportion to your sins” (her words,
not mine).
Though the action in this issue is intense, it’s not the main
focus. Thompson (writer) and Sherman (artist) quickly wrap up the
fight so they can explore the quieter, more personal moments of
Diana’s past and her relationship with Steve Trevor. After the
battle ends, we get several pages of a flashback to Diana rescuing
Steve in Hell, laying the groundwork for their growing connection.
This issue shines in its slower, more reflective moments—whether
it’s Diana putting a war general with a clear Napoleon complex in his
place, discussing mortality with Steve, or simply feeding her pegasus
(you wouldn’t believe what they eat). Thompson and Sherman are
clearly enjoying this take on Wonder Woman and her expanded
mythology. They’re crafting something special, and I appreciate the
deliberate, step-by-step approach they’re using. If you’re a fan of
mythology, immersive world-building, and character-driven narratives,
this is a must-read.
